The Blood of The Lamb

Ancient Israel in a show of faith to their God and as a sign that they would follow the only true and living God put the blood of the Lamb on the doorposts and lintels of their homes to let the “destroyer 'pass over'” them. It must have taken great faith for Israel as they did not have firsthand knowledge that the Prophet had asked them to put the blood of the Lamb on the doorposts. That came by word of mouth from the elders in Israel. (see Exodus 12: 21-28) Some may have been afraid to put up the sign, and may not have shown it, especially the ones without firstborn's in their home! Remember there were nine other signs, in the form of plagues, preceding this one, all of which went without Israel being freed from Pharaoh's slavery and wrath.

We live in a day in which we too must show the signs of Israel by “living” the Gospel. Many are bombarded, as was ancient Israel, with ridicule, scorn and persecution as they live the “Gospel” standard. Those “living” the higher standard, symbolically put the “Blood of the Lamb” on their doorposts as a witness of whom they are!

21 ¶ Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover.
22 And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning.
23 For the Lord will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the Lord will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.
24 And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever.
25 And it shall come to pass, when ye be come to the land which the Lord will give you, according as he hath promised, that ye shall keep this service.
26 And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service?
27 That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the Lord’s passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.
28 And the children of Israel went away, and did as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.

The Fiery Darts of the Adversary

While preparing for a talk “Becoming Goodly Parents” I ran across a scripture that speaks of the “fiery darts” of the Adversary. (Ephesians 6:16) What was unique with reading the verse this time and three others is how Satan uses many darts, shot with precision, at families to destroy them. Two of the scriptures speak of Satan’s darts and the other two speak of the darts thrown by the “wicked”. There are many combinations to “these “darts” with their mechanisms and forms.

What intrigued me in the research is how these darts or arrows have a double portion of destruction. The darts contain both fire and poison. The fire causes destruction to the outside or building, should it land on a structure. If the dart hits a person it carries a poison that is difficult if not impossible to get out of the bloodstream.

In like fashion the adversaries darts destroy both the outside and the inside. It is easier to put out a fire on the outside, than it is to remove poison once it is in the bloodstream from the inside. Sins from these darts are of both types from the outside in and from the inside out!

How are you shielding your family from Satan’s darts?

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
(New Testament | Ephesians 6:16)

And I said unto them that it was the word of God; and whoso would hearken unto the word of God, and would hold fast unto it, they would never perish; neither could the temptations and the fiery darts of the adversary overpower them unto blindness, to lead them away to destruction.
(Book of Mormon | 1 Nephi 15:24)

Yet you should have been faithful; and he would have extended his arm and supported you against all the fiery darts of the adversary; and he would have been with you in every time of trouble.
(Doctrine and Covenants 3:8)

Taking the shield of faith wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked;
(Doctrine and Covenants 27:17)
