New Year's Resolutions

12/27/2013

No year ends without thinking of those “New Year’s Resolutions”! By far the most common resolution is on weight. This has happened for thousands of years. The Scriptures speak of it.

Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness.

Psalm 65:11

What if the “weight” of our resolutions weighed on: friendships, forgiving, volunteering, living a good life or helping others laugh?

What do you think the studies would find if they compared loosing weight against living a Christ centered life?

Enjoy your “New Year” and may we loose the weight that holds us back from having a fulfilling life.

Santa Claus

Below are favorite scriptures to share with children at Christmastime. The first talks about Santa Claus. Where does he live? How do we know it is Santa besides his looks? His distinctive laugh of course.

Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the LORD: for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the LORD.
Zechariah 2:6

Santa’s Reindeer

This description answers the questions: how Santa gets around, what time of day he goes out and who had a red nose?

I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in the bottom; and behind him were there red horses, speckled, and white.

Zechariah 1:8

Santa Rides at Night

This reminds us that children have to be asleep for Santa to come and where he goes as he travels to give his toys?

And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.

Zechariah 1:11

Above quotes from Those Funny Scriptures pages  317-318

Let us show our Love of the Savior as we remember Christmas with acts of kindness.

17 And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.

(Mosiah 2:17)

Christmas Tree

Picture
Dad grew up poor; as a child, he never had a Christmas tree.

When my parents first married, because of their circumstances, dad never considered buying a tree. They weren’t rich by any stretch of the imagination but Mom wouldn’t have a Christmas without a tree so for my parents first Christmas they went all-out in decorating their tree. They decided they would put tinsel on the tree. Mom said, “Dad read the instructions on the tinsel box, which said to put a strand of tinsel on every inch on the tree. With a ruler in hand, Dad put the tinsel on the tree that year.”

[The picture shows a lack of ornaments, decorations, furniture, pictures and the like in the room.]

It was more than they could afford as newlyweds, but the tree looked great. Soon after, they started a tradition of buying one new ornament each year.
 - - We still love that family tradition. - -

A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked. | Psalm 37:16)

According to Jeremiah a tree is vain, but we enjoy the beauty of the tree and its reminder of Jesus Christ.

HEAR ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:

Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.

They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

Jeremiah 10:1-4
