Not one discouraged by his defeated attempts said, “I know how to kill it.” So off he went to the garage grabbing bug spray. He soon returned with what he thought was “Black-Flag” a popular bug spray at the time. To the window he went spraying that bug. What Gramps thought was bug spray was actually black spray-paint. He did manage to hit the fly with the black paint and it looked as though that toxic paint had killed the fly sticking it to the now-blackened window! Back to our conversations we went after Grandma chided him for using black spray-paint. Gramps’ reply was, “Well, I killed it and we don’t have to listen to that blasted racket anymore now do we!” Grandmas’ reply, “Now you have to clean the paint off the window!” Gramps not deterred and satisfied the fly wasn't going to bother us any longer went back to our conversation. Then, without warning, the fly came back from the dead, resuming its racket!
I miss Grandma and Gramps with their smiling faces, wrinkled with age, peppered with life’s stories and filled with love. May we remember our Thanksgivings and enjoy them while they last.
Some Scriptural “food” for thought during this “Thanksgiving” feast, from Leviticus 7:12-15
If he offer it for a thanksgiving, then he shall offer with the sacrifice of thanksgiving unleavened cakes mingled with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil, and cakes mingled with oil, of fine flour, fried.
Besides the cakes, he shall offer for his offering leavened bread with the sacrifice of thanksgiving of his peace offerings.
And of it he shall offer one out of the whole oblation for an heave offering unto the LORD, and it shall be the priest's that sprinkleth the blood of the peace offerings.
And the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thanksgiving shall be eaten the same day that it is offered; he shall not leave any of it until the morning.
Don’t eat too much during “Thanksgiving,” or you might be a part of the “heave offering.”
