Last night my niece, Rachel came to hear the Six Basses bear their testimony of Christ through song at the Upland Nativity Festival. Afterwards she asked if percussion instruments and pickles were in the scriptures. We laughed at the question and then a thousand stories ran through our minds. Stories of the fall of Jericho with the Israelites blowing their trumpets. Thoughts of the Psalms singing praises through psaltery and cymbals. (See footnote 1) Next came the Parable of the Pickle by Elder Bednar (See footnote 2) and the cucumber Scriptures found in the Bible. (See footnote 3)
Last came the thoughts of Christ, knocking. To that bright inquiring young Rachel, Yes there is percussion in the Scriptures. We find it in the most important places like our home. I wonder when that “knocking” takes place, will we listen? Will we inquire? Will we let Him enter our lives that one day we might be worthy to knock and enter His presence. May we remember the reason for Christmas and let Christ into our lives while He knocks.
